What is your professional experience/background? I graduated from UNLV with a BS in Electrical Engineering and have worked at NV Energy for 17.5 years in various capacities. As the Director of Demand Side Management and Renewable programs my responsibilities include oversight leadership of the Demand Side Management and the Clean Energy team. Additional responsibilities include development and implementation, analysis and cost recovery of cost-effective statewide demand side management, Clean Energy and Transportation Electrification programs which provide exceptional service to customers.

Being a great role model to my kids and to women in the STEM field is one of my biggest accomplishments and responsibilities at the same time. I have mentored many people and I truly enjoy seeing and helping others grow.

Goals: Continue to grow and see more women in the STEM field.

Personal or professional Advice for LIP?
  • Don’t give up even when it seems impossible, stay focused and follow your dreams. Every day I tell myself “tomorrow will be better”. Stay positive and be kind to yourself.
  • Find mentors and pay it forward by becoming a mentor your-self; my mentees push me to grow to continue to have experience and knowledge to share with them.
  • Volunteer for assignments and special projects even if its outside of your comfort zone.
  • Self-reflection has helped incredibly with my growth; it gives us the opportunity to continue to work on ourselves and get better.
  • Carve time daily or weekly to work on yourself and try not to feel guilty, we Latinas want to serve and please our family and friends and often forget to invest in ourselves. If you have kids use it as a teaching moment, share with them what you are doing to work on your self and tell them the “why”.
  • Give back to the community and network.

Where were you born?
Arlington, Texas

How long have you been in the US?
My parents immigrated to the U.S. from Nicaragua while my mom was pregnant with my sister and me. They landed in a Red Cross in Arlington, Texas and soon after moved to Las Vegas.

Fun fact:

Since my mom was immigrating over to the U.S., she had no idea she was expecting twins!

What are your hobbies?
  • Spending time with my family
  • Peloton Tread
  • Going to the movies

What is your professional experience/background?

As with many Latino families, my parents persevered and overcame many obstacles since the moment they arrived. I recall delivering newspapers for the Review Journal and The Las Vegas Sun as early as 8 years old. By high school, I wanted to alleviate some expenses for my parents and so I began my search for a summer job. My mom came home with a flyer one day that read: “High School Internship Program at Washington Mutual.” My initial reaction was to say no as I did not see myself in banking. Low and behold 17 years later I have made a very successful career from it. I spent many years taking on different roles within the branches while also going to school. I was blessed to have an opportunity present itself soon after I graduated from college. Today I provide treasury, credit, payment, and global solutions to mid-size companies as a Commercial Banker for JPMorgan Chase & Co. Aside from my day job, I have a passion for advocating diversity, equity and inclusion both internally and externally.

Accomplishments:
  • 2017 Recognized as an “Outstanding Performer” for the Chase Las Vegas Market
  • 2019 Launched Adelante, a Chase Employee Business Resource Group
  • 2022 Recognized on Commercial Bank’s Q1 Hall of Fame for New Relationships

Goals:
Personal goal: I would like to travel more with my baby girl and husband.
Professional goal: I would like to join a board of an organization that aligns with my values and make an impact to the Vegas community. In addition, I would love to be recognized as an influential individual whether that’s through 40 under 40, Women to Watch, etc.
